Djokovic vs. Federer 2015 Wimbledon Men’s Final Preview and Predictions

Djokovic vs. Federer is the 2015 Wimbledon Men’s Final as the #1 and #2 players in the world will meet for the 39th time at the ATP level, in what is a rematch of the 2014 Wimbledon final. Both superstars of the sport have been playing amazing tennis for two weeks running now, and this final looks to be a thrilling clash. Our experts are here to provide their preview of the matchup, and their predictions.

Novak Djokovic vs. Roger Federer

Yesh Ginsburg:
Djokovic’s level of tennis this year has at times seemed subpar (or, at least, subpar for him) yet he still never loses. The Serbian is an insane 47-3 on the year, yet that fact has somehow flown under the radar. Federer has not had his best year by and stretch, but is still World #2 and impressive in his consistency. What was most impressive was his performance to beat Andy Murray in his semifinal match, a masterclass performance that looked like the vintage Federer of 2004-2006. If he serves and plays like that again, it will be very difficult for Djokovic to even win a set, let alone this match. On the other hand, as Federer has gotten older his ability to string world-class performances together has decreased. Still, the way he played Friday just can’t be overlooked. Federer in 4 sets

Steen Kirby:
Djokovic is the deserved world #1 at the moment, and he blitzed past Richard Gasquet on Friday, as his last two matches clearly demonstrated he has kicked off any of the lingering effects of the five setter he was forced to play against Kevin Anderson after going two sets down in the round of 16. That said, what Federer has done this Wimbledon has been remarkable, as the Swiss played one of the best matches of his career, at any age, on Friday when he demolished an in-form Andy Murray. Murray didn’t play a poor match at all, and simply played his game, but Federer out classed him in every category and put on a serving performance fit for a king.

With just one set dropped this tournament, and the demolishing of one of the pre-tournament favorites in Murray, to Federer is now the favorite in this close matchup. The h2h is 1-1 on grass and Djokovic won in five sets when they met at Wimbledon last year. This time, I think Federer will be the one to get the better of Novak, slow surfaces favor the Serb, but Federer has been able to get an advantage against him on quicker courts, and I feel Federer can conjure up the magic at least one more time at Wimbledon and win this slam, at a time in which many thought he was too old to do so. Federer in 5 sets

Stefano Berlincioni:
Novak and Roger know each other very well, H2H is almost even so this rematch of last year’s final (that was a very close 5 setter) it’s a quite tough match to call. I am going with Roger Federer because he showed very good form during the whole tournament and he produced an outstanding performance in the semifinal. Murray didn’t play bad at all but Federer just played at untouchable level and I don’t see any reason why he could not be able to reproduce that level, also considering he had quite short matches during the whole tournament.

I have to admit that before Roland Garros final I was pretty sure that Novak Djokovic had good chances to make the calendar year Grand Slam but the loss in the final surely highly affected his self-confidence so he knows that he is vulnerable and also here had to escape from two sets down against Anderson. Novak is still my favourite long term this year, but I think that Federer playing at same level he showed against Murray should win the match in not more than 4 sets. Federer in 4 sets

Niall Clarke:
Novak Djokovic laboured his way to the fourth round where he was tested by Kevin Anderson. That match seemed to boost the world number one, who went on to not lose a set in the next two matches. Djokovic will be looking to bounce back after the disappointment at Roland Garros the previous month where he lost in four sets to another Swiss, Stan Wawrinka.

Roger Federer has been the best player in the tournament so far. He has only dropped serve once and the only set he lost was a tiebreak to big serving Sam Groth. The Swiss has served excellently throughout the tournament and his performance in the semi-final against Andy Murray was very good. You feel this could be Federer’s last and greatest chance to get to number 18.

These two usually play very close matches and the contrast in styles make them very entertaining. Last year it went all the way to five sets and it was Djokovic who came out the winner. I expect something similar here with both players having swings of momentum. I just feel Djokovic’s defence will prove pivotal and therefore he will win his third Wimbledon title, Djokovic in 5 sets
