The following is a press release from Harlequins regarding the upcoming Fiji and Canada Test match.
International Test match rugby comes to The Stoop
Harlequins can announce today (Tuesday 7th July) that the Twickenham Stoop will host the international Test match between Fiji and Canada on Sunday 6th September as both sides prepare for Rugby World Cup 2015.
The Stoop will for the first time hold a men’s Test match as Fiji make their first appearance on English soil since 2012.
Both Fiji, ranked 11th in the world, and Canada, ranked 20th, have featured in every Rugby World Cup since the inaugural tournament in 1987.
This Test match, which has been arranged with former Harlequins captain Peter Winterbottom and Full Contact Events, will be all the more significant to English supporters as the Fijians will compete against England in Pool A during the opening night of the Rugby World Cup.
Speaking ahead of the fixture, Fijian Head Coach John McKee commented: “This match is very important in our build up to the Rugby World Cup and the opening match against England. It provides a great opportunity for our UK supporters to see the Flying Fijians in action in full Test match mode.”
“The Flying Fijians squad will have been together since July 1st and will have a Pacific Nations Cup campaign and re-conditioning Camp in Fiji behind them. This match will put the final touches on our preparation before entering our World Cup team base.”
Winterbottom added: “It’s a reflection on Harlequins as a Club and its supporters that such an attractive fixture as this one will be coming to The Stoop in September. It is a great opportunity for all supporters to get a glimpse of two very exciting teams ahead of the Rugby World Cup.”
