T.J. Oshie Traded to Washington Capitals for Troy Brouwer

The Washington Capitals have acquired right wing T.J. Oshie from the St. Louis Blues in a trade today, for right wing Troy Brouwer, goaltender Pheonix Copley and a 2016 third-round pick.

Oshie, 28, had spent his entire seven-year career with the Blues. He was drafted by St. Louis in the first round with the 24th overall pick of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Oshie had 19 goals and 55 points for the Blues last season. The Blues had been shopping Oshie due to his inconsistent production in the postseason as he has only nine points in 30 playoff games. This has contributed to the Blues losing in the first round of the playoffs in each of the last three years.

Brouwer, 29, amassed 43 points while playing in all 82 regular season games last year in the nation’s capital. He has 255 career points in 531 games and the Vancouver-born forward has a Stanley Cup under his belt, capturing it with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010. He was acquired by the Capitals in a 2011 draft day trade, where the Capitals gave the Blackhawks a first round pick.

Copley, 23, played in 26 regular season games with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League last year, adding an impressive 2.17 goals-against average with a record of 17-4-3. He also had a .925 save percentage during that campaign.
