CFL Predictions: Week 2

All right, CFL fans, we’re back with our weekly roundup of CFL predictions for week 2. With quarterbacks dropping like flies and crazy see-saw battles on the field, it’s tougher than ever to call the games. Who better to embarrass themselves with their picks than your own LWOS CFL crew?

Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Matt B’s thoughts: Winnipeg shone in its battle with Saskatchewan, pulling out the W in a tight contest. But the Ticats are not limping the way Saskatchewan was, and their training camp injuries are starting to come back onto the field. Even without some key positions (notably at running back), the Ticats looked like real predators last week, with good production all over the field. Winnipeg will need to find a higher gear, and it’s not certain that Drew Willy will get them there.

Kelly Bale: Hamilton 32 – Winnipeg 28

Matt Bin: Hamilton 35 – Winnipeg 24

Nicholas Di Giovanni: Hamilton 33 – Winnipeg 27

Lance Keiser: Hamilton 24 – Winnipeg 31

Gina Schiltz: Hamilton 24 – Winnipeg 21

Calgary Stampeders at Montreal Alouettes

Gina’s thoughts: Last week Calgary drew a lot of penalty flags, and one that almost cost them the game. And Bo-Levi Mitchell had one of the worst games he’s had, throwing 3 interceptions. That likely won’t happen this week. With Montreal’s quarterback situation looking a little bleak, they’ll have to rely on the return of Michael Sam to make some good plays, but it won’t be enough.

Kelly Bale: Calgary 36 – Montreal 18

Matt Bin: Calgary 31 – Montreal 10

Nicholas Di Giovanni: Calgary 29 – Montreal 12

Lance Keiser: Calgary 37 – Montreal 13

Gina Schiltz: Calgary 29 – Montreal 15

B.C. Lions at Ottawa Redblacks

Matt B’s thoughts: Ottawa looked good – not great – last week against a stumbling Montreal. While they don’t look like they’re going to run the East, they’re already looking more solid and composed than they did most of last year. That may not stand when they confront some serious competition – and that serious competition might arrive in the form of Travis Lulay and the B.C. Lions. The only question mark with B.C. is Lulay himself; if he gets lightly bumped, he could be toast. If he stays in game form for four straight quarters, he’s going to ruin the party in Ottawa.

Kelly Bale: B.C. 31 – Ottawa 27

Matt Bin: B.C. 24 – Ottawa 16

Nicholas Di Giovanni: B.C. 17 – Ottawa 18

Lance Keiser: B.C. 16 – Ottawa 27

Gina Schiltz: B.C. 27 – Ottawa 25

Toronto Argonauts at Saskatchewan Roughriders

Lance’s thoughts: The Toronto Argonauts are headed into their week two contest against the Riders on a high note. Trevor Harris played flawlessly in week one against the Eskimos. The Riders are at a low point early on in the season after the devastating news that Darian Durant is again gone for the year. Kevin Glenn will play admirably, but it will be for naught with a high energy performance by the Argos offence. Conversely the Riders will be one-dimensional, relying on the run. If Toronto contains the Saskatchewan rush attack, it will be a long day for Kevin Glenn.

Kelly Bale: Toronto 22 – Saskatchewan 32

Matt Bin: Toronto 25 – Saskatchewan 11

Nicholas Di Giovanni: Toronto 48 – Saskatchewan 21

Lance Keiser: Toronto 29 – Saskatchewan 19

Gina Schiltz: Toronto 31 – Saskatchewan 19

Week 1 Roundup

Lance was the best prognosticator last week with a 3-1 picks record after the crazy, unpredictable results. The Matts both came in even at 2-2, and everyone else ended at only one correct pick out of four. This week’s picks hinge on such variables as Trevor Harris continuing as the heir apparent, and Travis Lulay making it through four straight quarters unscathed. So don’t expect many perfect scores this week.

And if you think you know better, post your picks in the comments and we’ll include you in the roundup next week!
