It looks like Anthony Davis is going to be with the Pelicans for a while. Davis has agreed to a 5 year, $145 million contract extension. This is a very smart move by the Pelicans organization.
Davis is one of the best power forwards in the game, if not the best. He simply improves his game every single year. The best thing about this extension is that Davis is only 22 years old. He is still four or five years away from his prime and is already one of the best players on the planet. He is due for some MVP awards in the future.
The future is very bright for the Pelicans. They brought in Alvin Gentry, who is one of the most respected coaches in the NBA. Him and Davis will get along really well, which is a big positive. They made the playoffs this year and are only going to build off of that. If Jrue Holiday can get healthy, he can definitely remind us why he was an all star a few years ago. Tyreke Evans and Eric Gordon are very important to the Pelicans, and they are ready to help make the team better. They might not be a title contender just yet, but they are making strides every year to become one.
Kawhi Leonard is also going to be with his respective organization as well. He has agreed to a 5 year, $90 million extension with the San Antonio Spurs. This is a not a surprise to anyone, as Leonard was a restricted free agent. The Spurs were going to match any offer given to Leonard.
Leonard is one of the best two-way players in the league. He is one of the best defensive players in the league and has made improvements in offensive game every year. Do not forget that Leonard won the NBA Finals MVP Award in 2014. Without him, the Spurs might have not won that championship. With Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker all nearing the ends of their careers, Leonard is the future of the Spurs franchise.
Congratulations to both of these players on their extensions. They are going to be some of the most exciting players in the league to watch for a long time. With these two giving us the first splashes of free agency, we are in for an exciting offseason.
