Kyle Korver to Undergo Elbow Surgery

Today the Atlanta Hawks announced that All-Star shooting guard Kyle Korver is to have surgery on his right elbow. This will be Korver’s third surgery since March. It will be to remove loose bodies in the elbow after his two previous surgeries were for a broken nose and for ankle ligament damage. The 34 year old guard is wearing a protective boot on his foot and expects to do so for a few months. Korver has spoken to the media and is staying positive on the injury; he has said that he fully expects to be back for Hawks training camp.

The surgery will take place today in New York on June 30th.

Is there more to this injury than meets the eye?

There is a lingering question in my mind, when I think about this injury and the others Korver has suffered. Is Korver just battered and bruised after what was a grueling and in the end disappointing season with the Hawks. Or is Father Time catching up with the 34-year-old sharp shooter.

I personally am leaning towards Father Time, when you consider the amount of three pointers Korver has put up over the years, which has to take a big toll on a players arm. As we all know shooters can play for years in the NBA. But here’s a quick question for you. How many past shooters in the NBA have gotten better at shooting the three past the age of 35? I personally cannot think of anyone in recent memory.

This leads me to believe that unless Korver adapts his game for longevity, sadly the injuries may keep on coming.

Hopefully Kyle Korver plays in the NBA for a long time to come, but Father Time does not wait for any man.
