Former Cyclone player and Current DMACC basketball assistant coach, Austin McBeth, took over the head coaching reigns for ADIO Chiropractic’s fifth win of the season against Renaissance Granite.

“Coaching is what I’m trying to do, Derek (the head coach that was gone) told me I could coach and play,” McBeth said. “It was a good time, I just like helping these young guys out.”

McBeth was faced with a difficult task, to take five players and himself while all American, Georges Niang, gone for a basketball camp. In addition, Abdel Nader made his YCCL season debut. The final score was ADIO 121-108 over Renaissance.

ADIO Chiropractic (5-1) 121, Renaissance Granite (0-6) 108

Iowa State walk-on Jordan Ashton lead the team with 47 points and had help from Galat Toang who had 21. In his debut, Nader looked a little rusty, however made a 41 point effort in Renaissance’s sixth loss.

“It’s definitely not how I remember, we’ve got a lot of people out here to see us, we love that,” Nader said. “It’s fun, any time you play in front of a lot of people, it’s fun.

Phoenix Renewable Resources (6-0) 102, Hannah Homes (2-4) 93

Kourtlin Jackson lead his Phoenix squad on Sunday to allow the team to remain undefeated by scoring 61 points of the teams 102.

“It feels good, [to get 61] I feel so blessed, to still be able to play the game of basketball,” Jackson said. “I love the game, I love playing with passion.”

Jackson and Deonte Burton talked a little bit of smack during the game as well.

“That’s all fun and games,” Jackson said. “I like getting in their heads.”

Burton had 29 and Drake senior Kale Abrahamson had 25.

Walnut Creek YMCA (3-3) 117, Capital Orthopedics (2-4) 115

Jameel McKay had himself an eventful night in his YCCL season debut, scoring a team high 32 points and adding 14 rebounds.

“It was fun competing,” McKay said. “After playing tonight I wish I would have been playing. My team is a little soft.”

McKay also met with one of his biggest fans on Sunday

“It started last year, she came up to me and she just jumped on me,” McKay said. “Ever since then we have had a good relationship. She is one of my biggest fans.”

Night Seven Preview – Wednesday, July 1

5:30pm CT: Phoenix Renewable Resources (6-0) vs. Walnut Creek YMCA (3-3)

Jameel McKay and YMCA will try to fight to keep their third spot in the standings with ADIO hoping for a loss. If ADIO wins out and and Phoenix loses out, there will be a tie atop the standings.

6:45pm CT: Hannah Homes (2-4) vs. Renaissance Granite & Quartz (0-6)

Renaissance Granite will once again battle the team at the bottom of the standings trying to get their first win. This time, Abdel Nader will have one game with the team under his belt.

8:00pm CT: ADIO Chiropractic (5-1) vs. Capital Orthopedics (2-4)

ADIO tries to continue their success in hopes of grabbing the #1 seed out of Phoenix RR’s feet. It’s possible Georges Niang will be back from his camp as well to try to ensure a victory.
