MLS Pick ‘Em 2015: Week 18  – Portland Timbers vs Seattle Sounders

This week, the biggest rivalry in the Pacific Northwest gets another chance to shine. Portland won two weeks ago in the now infamous U.S. Open Cup match against the Sounders which saw Seattle finish with just 7 players on the field. Portland followed that performance by getting absolutely walloped by the LA Galaxy 5-0 at the Stub Hub Center. Seattle is having its own struggles now, coming off two straight losses and dealing with the loss of Obafemi Martins and Clint Dempsey to injury and suspension. Will Seattle find a way to win without the stars, or will Portland rebound from the horror in LA? Let’s see what the experts say:

Expert Pick Comments
Joseph GoldsteinAnalyst@LastWord_JG POR (2-0) Timbers surrendered 1 goal in their last 4 games (Before the Wednesday nightmare at LA), all of which were wins. That doesn’t bode well for the Sounders, who have struggled to score when Dempsey and Oba do not play, as witnessed at Philadelphia midweek. I think Timber Joey will enjoy his two cuts this week at Providence Park.
Eric WalcottStaff Writer@ericwalcott POR (3-1) The forecast for Sunday in Portland is high temps and high scores. The heat means tired legs, which will lead to a late Fanendo Adi brace for the win.
Alec RiveraDepartment Head@LWOSAlec SEA (3-1) #RememberLA
Jeff KrauseEditor@DFBJeff POR (1-0) Seattle is in temporary shambles, and rebounding from their dumpster fire result in USOC won’t be easy to bounce back from in Providence Park.
Russ McKenzieDepartment Head@Russ_McKenzie Draw (1-1) Seattle will be out for blood, even without Dempsey and Martins, after their drubbing at the hands of Portland in USOC play. Look for #AngryPorterFace on the sidelines as Seattle reminds us all why they may be down, but they are not out.
John RichanStaff Writer@John_Richan SEA (2-0) Seattle is top on the West and will show why against Portland this weekend. The Sounders have a superior goal difference and it will show against the Timbers when push comes to shove.
Michael NortonEditor@MichaelNorton95 Draw (1-1) Lamar Neagle and Marco Pappa are very good players that seem to get lost in Seattle’s loaded side. Time for one of them to find their scoring shoes and a stolen point from this fixture.
Ned JoyceContributor@nedjoyce POR (2-1) Seattle is not the same without the dynamic duo. Portland is at full strength and looking dangerous. They will only get two though against the marshall
