Ducks Send Etem and Pick to Rangers for Hagelin and Picks

The Anaheim Ducks and the New York Rangers helped kick off the second round of the 2015 NHL entry draft with a big trade of their own, with the Ducks sending American right wing Emerson Etem and the 41st overall pick in exchange for the speedy, Swedish left wing Carl Hagelin and the 59th and 179th overall picks.

One of the major concerns for the Rangers in sending Hagelin to Anaheim, who is currently a restricted free agent, was the difficulty in signing an extension. Etem who is also a restricted free agent will come with a much cheaper extension for New York, who had three other RFAs to sign including Derek Stepan.

Hagelin played all 82 regular season games in the past season, recording 18 goals and 17 assists. In the post-season he played 19 games, where he struggled, only being able to put up two goals and three assists.

Etem, on the other hand, split time between the Ducks and their AHL affliate, the Norfolk Admirals in the 2014-15 season. In the big leagues of the NHL, Etem appeared in 45 games, splitting 10 points in half at five goals and five assists. He was also able to play in 12 post-season games where he scored three goals.
