Chicago Fire Acquire Defender Ty Harden
Veteran defender joins Men in Red from San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for forward Quincy Amarikwa
CHICAGO (June 26, 2015) – The Chicago Fire announced Friday that the club has acquired defender Ty Harden from the San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for forward Quincy Amarikwa. Per MLS and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Ty is a steady, dependable player who knows this League well,” said Chicago Fire Head Coach and Director of Soccer Frank Yallop. “I’ve known Ty for a number of years. He’s a solid veteran presence and will provide depth to our side as we enter the second half of the campaign. I’d like to thank Quincy for his time in Chicago and wish him the best with his new side.”
Harden joins the Fire after spending the last three seasons with the Earthquakes. Harden was signed by the Earthquakes prior to the 2013 season and went on to appear in 26 MLS matches for the Northern California side. Harden tallied a goal in San Jose’s CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal match on March 19, 2014.
A native of Norman, Okla., Harden was selected in the second round (23rd overall) of the 2007 MLS SuperDraft by Yallop and the LA Galaxy after a standout collegiate career at University of Washington. In his rookie season, Harden started 24 matches before taking a year off from soccer in 2008.
Harden returned to MLS in 2009 as a member of the Rapids before he was traded to Toronto FC in February 2010. The eight-year MLS veteran made his 100th career MLS appearance on March 22, 2015 against the Fire and scored the eventual game-winner for the Earthquakes.
Harden is cup-tied and will not be available for the Fire’s Round of 16 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match against the Charlotte Independence at Toyota Park on June 30. Harden will be available for MLS matches on July 8, the beginning of the secondary transfer window.
