The YMCA Capital City League is at the halfway mark of the regular season, and Georges Niang was a bit more than impressive in the latest set of games.
Georges Niang’s 58 a YCCL Season High During Night Four
Hannah Homes (2-2) 117, Renaissance Granite & Quartz (0-4) 111
During Wednesday’s opener, winless Renaissance Granite & Quartz took on a powerful Hannah Homes team and surprised everyone.
With Abdel Nader still absent, Reed Timmer lead his team with 46 points and added 11 rebounds.
“It’s a good experience for me, it’s kind of a similar role that will help me play at Drake,” Timmer said. “Just being one of the leaders, one that knows what to expect.”
Hannah Homes use of their “big three” got them the win in the end however as Deonte Burton had 35 points, Hallice Cooke knocked down 29 and Kale Abrahamson put up 24.
Phoenix Renewable Resources (4-0) 122, Walnut Creek YMCA (1-3) 110
Phoenix RR stayed undefeated in Wednesday’s second matchup thanks to Kourtlin Jackson’s 30 point, 10 rebound and Monte Morris’ 29-11 performances.
With no big man down low, it was evident YMCA was out matched, until Billy Wampler turned on the jets.
Wampler finished with 39 points in by far his best YCCL performance.
“I felt good, it wasn’t really about me. We were really trying to get that win,” Wampler said. “Because, Casey (Schlatter) and Kory (Kuenstling) were talking crap before the game saying they were going to kill us.”
ADIO Chiropractic (4-0) 147, Capital Orthopedics (2-2) 97
Georges Niang lead his ADIO Chiropractic team with 58 points during a blowout victory in Wednesday night’s finale. That was just nine points off of Sherron Dorsey-Walker’s 67 two seasons ago.
“I was just out there having fun, the game was pretty much over from the get go,” Niang said. “I’m just trying to get my legs under me before I head out to camp this week.”
Niang will showcase his skills in the Nike Basketball Academy in Los Angeles from June 26-29.
“[Its] a super cool opportunity whenever you can go,” Niang said. “To train with professionals and the best players in college basketball, I’ll definitely come in with open eyes and open ears and see what everyone is doing to become better.”
The blowout game allowed Valley Juniors, Charley Crowley and Quinton Curry to get some extended playing time.
“It felt good,” Crowley said. “Hopefully we have another game like this so that I can get a chance to throw up the three goggles.”
Curry replied that Crowley would have to make the shot first.
