MLS Power Rankings 23 June 2015
RANK | TEAM | COMMENTS | Last 6 | Previous | Change |
1 | D.C. United |
DC’s come from behind win puts them on top of the power rankings and the Shield standings. | 3-3-0 | 7 | +6 |
2 |
Vancouver Whitecaps FC |
Vancouver may have had it easy in Harrison after the early Red Card, but the points count no matter how you earn them. 3rd in ppg now overall. | 3-3-0 | 5 | +3 |
3 |
Portland Timbers |
Portland has picked up major steam in the last month with a 4th straight win. The rest of the league has been warned. | 4-2-0 | 12 | +9 |
4 |
Seattle Sounders FC |
Seattle dropped points at home to SJ. Top that with a suspension to Clint and an injury to Oba and things are a little shakey for a team that was on top of the world just last week. | 3-2-1 | 1 | -3 |
5 |
Sporting Kansas City |
KC’s loss to Salt Lake brought them back down to earth. Steady as she goes they say. Not a lot to worry about for Sporting | 3-1-2 | 2 | -3 |
6 | LA Galaxy |
LA might have the steal of the season with their signing of Sebastian Lletget. Any early season worry is far behind, and with Zardes and Keane firing (Albeit against a Union team that looked outclassed), the Galaxy are looking elite once more. | 3-1-2 | 13 | +7 |
7 |
San Jose Earthquakes |
San Jose has two very impressive wins over Seattle this season, but I’m not sure what to make of them still. | 2-1-3 | 11 | +4 |
8 |
Montreal Impact |
Montreal continues to be a team reborn as the long layoff and Champions League heartbreak is behind them now. | 4-2-0 | 8 | 0 |
9 |
New England Revolution |
New England is still trying to find results, and have fallen down the rankings in spite of remaining near the top of the table. Form says they will start to drop there too, and sooner rather than later. | 1-3-2 | 3 | -6 |
10 |
Orlando City SC |
Orland City is having a stellar season through the first half of action. Third place in the East is quite impressive for the upstarts. The loss to Montreal knocked them down a peg, but they have been quite effective so far. | 3-1-2 | 6 | -4 |
11 |
New York City FC |
City’s nightmare is over, and with the addition of Pirlo, more questions are asked the answered. Finding three wins in a row and drawing even with the Red neighbors is certainly making the Citizens happy. Second NY derby will be another wild one. | 3-1-2 | 15 | +4 |
12 |
Toronto FC |
Toronto’s drop is a bit harsh, but it is weighed by the opponent. City has been winning, but TFC should be able to handle them, and they weren’t good enough on the day. | 3-2-1 | 4 | -8 |
13 |
Houston Dynamo |
Houston continues to hang out in the middle of the pack. One week they impress, the next they disappoint. They need to find consistensy as the West is looking scarier and scarier these days. | 3-2-1 | 9 | -4 |
14 |
Philadelphia Union |
Phillly was completely outclassed in LA. Not the first team to have that happen to them this decade. Reaction this week will be more important to their form going forward. | 3-3-0 | 10 | -4 |
15 |
Real Salt Lake |
Salt Lakes win over Sporting is sure to boost their confidence. Losing Kyle Beckerman to yellow card accumulation heading to NY for a midweek clash could be a bigger issue. | 2-3-1 | 16 | +1 |
16 |
Colorado Rapids |
Colorado isn’t losing many games, but surely they could find a way to win some. They have been out shooting opponents for weeks now, but are struggling to find goals, even with two new forward DPs. | 1-2-3 | 17 | +1 |
17 |
Chicago Fire |
Chicago had a week off, and they managed to move up. After three straight losses, sometimes the only way to win is not to play. | 1-3-2 | 18 | +1 |
18 |
New York Red Bulls |
Red Bulls shot themselves in the foot early missing a PK and going down a man, but they managed to nearly pull out a result. The bad news? That’s now 4 losses in a row and a congested schedule looms. | 1-4-1 | 20 | +2 |
19 |
Columbus Crew SC |
No game last week for Columbus, but a couple of good ones on tap for them this week. At home to NE and away to RSL. Might be a chance for them to pick up some points and gain some momentum. | 0-3-3 | 19 | 0 |
20 |
FC Dallas |
Seven games without a win and counting. What is going on in Texas? The Red Bulls of the west are nearly out of playoff position now, but it is still a long season. Let’s see what happens over the next couple of weeks. | 0-3-3 | 14 | -6 |
