Cliff Alexander – 6’8” PF/C, 250 LBS., Kansas University, 19 years old
Offensive Game – Alexander has an unrefined offensive repetoir. He is very unpolished and needs significant development in his jump shot to become a significant NBA player. However, Alexander knows how to score if he catches the ball near the rim or in the lane. He is a high energy player who has an attitude that could bode well to develop a more sophisticated offensive game.
However, since Alexander is a bit small for an NBA power forward and center, he is not the “stretch-four” that is in vogue in the NBA at present. If Alexander can develop a 10-15 foot shot range, he could become a solid offensive presence in the NBA.
Defensive Game – On the defensive side of the ball, Alexander is an athletic force. He is powerful rebounder and shot blocker despite his size. Alexander’s energy will serve him well. Alexander will be able to contribute to teams for his defensive strengths before his offense.
NBA Potential – Alexander projects as a good shot blocker and great defensive rebounder. If he can develop a 10-15 foot shot, Alexander could end up a fairly decent NBA player in time and a good draft bargain. Alexander is the type of raw, but energetic player, that would have benefited to have stayed in school, but could be a valuable player to an NBA team down the road.
NBA Player Comparison – Former Kansas player Thomas Robinson. While not as tall as Joakim Noah, Alexander could bring the same type of defensive energy and effort.
NBA Readiness – Alexander is very raw and not ready to compete in big minutes at the NBA level. With more seasoning at the NBA level, Alexander could be a lottery pick in a year or two. However, at present, Alexander has great potential.
