With mini camp under way for the Buffalo Bills, you can officially start the much awaited quarterback competition. Four players will vie for the starting nod, including Matt Cassel, E.J. Manuel, Matt Simms, and Tyrod Taylor.
The defense is expected to be the staple of the team, and with the addition of LeSean McCoy from the Philadelphia Eagles the running game is set to be strong. But with uncertainty at the quarterback position, just how far the Bills can go this season will be determined at how the situation clears itself up.
LeSean McCoy Unconcerned With Quarterback Situation
One of the old sayings in football is ‘if you have two quarterbacks, you really have none’, well for the Bills it could easily be thought of a disaster waiting to happen. But for the newly acquired ‘Shady’ McCoy, he doesn’t see a problem with the pending quarterback competition, but actually relishes the idea of having them rotate in-and-out with the first team.
“All the quarterbacks are all getting reps with the first team,” McCoy said after practice. “So it’s not like I never get reps with none of the quarterbacks. They all rotate in-and-out with the ones (starters).”
The thought of having a quarterback come and go in practice could worry most, as the potential of not being able to get in a rhythm with any one of them can potentially hold the offense back. McCoy again isn’t too concerned with that, “I don’t how it is for the whole players but for myself I’ve been in this position a couple of times so I’m kind of use to it.”
“Let the guys compete… the coaches always have the last word, that’s how it always been.”
Newcomers Taylor and Cassel – who the Bills acquired via trade – split reps on Wednesday with the first team, with Manuel settled in with the first teamers.
