Donny Schatz crowns Huset’s, earns second win in one day

Tony Stewart Racing driver, Donny Schatz earned his series leading 13th win at Huset's Speedway in South Dakota on Sunday night.

Tony Stewart Racing driver, Donny Schatz earned his series leading 13th win at Huset’s Speedway in South Dakota on Sunday, however, that was not the most interesting stat.

Because Saturday’s Mediacom Shootout at Knoxville actually finished early Sunday morning, Donny Schatz picked up his second win in one day.

The North Dakota native is the first to win two races in the same day since Sammy Swindell at Syracuse and Rolling Hills on October 12, 1992.

“A lot of it is this race team, the guys do a great job,” Schatz said. “And, I’m just lucky that I get to drive it.”

“The car was good early in the race,” said Schatz. “But it was just a matter of time before the bottom line took rubber. We just had to be patient and hope to get a break.”

Shane Stewart passed Schatz earlier in the race, but a mistake in turn four cost the #2 the win.

“After being given a huge gift like that,” Stewart said. “You hate losing a race like that.”

“I just got a little bit high and you can’t screw up when Donny Schatz is behind you,” Stewart said. “I hate it for my team. They’ve had a long day.”

Stewart and Schatz continue to stick close to each other sitting one-two at the top of the World of Outlaws points standings.
