MLS Pick ‘Em 2015: Week 16 – Orlando City F.C. v. D.C. United

MLS Pick ‘Em 2015: Week 16  – Orlando City F.C.  v. D.C. United

Last week, a 0-0 draw between Real Salt Lake and Colorado Rapids thwarted the best efforts of all but two of our experts. I continue my slow ascent up the standings, while Jeff and Eric pulled closer to Russ at that top. Here are the updated standings:

Player Points Correct Outcome Correct Score Incorrect
Russ McKenzie 15 9 3 7
Jeff Krause 11 9 1 7
Eric Walcott 10 10 0 6
Alec Rivera 7 5 1 11
Joseph Goldstein 7 5 1 11
Ned Joyce 5 3 1 13
John Richan 4 4 0 12
Michael Norton 3 3 0 13

This week, Orlando City host D.C. United. Orlando is in the midst of a 4-game unbeaten streak, and D.C. is coming off a loss to Toronto FC. United have won both previous games against the league debutantes, but Orlando is playing at a different level from the last time these teams met. Will it be more of the same for the Eastern Conference foes or will Orlando turn Black and Red to Black and Blue? Here’s what our experts think:

OCSC (2-1)

Orlando is starting to find themselves and D.C. has hit a small bump in the road. I think this is a case of getting the right team at the right time for Orlando

DC (2-1)

D.C.’s defense will frustrate Orlando’s attack and they’ll hit on the counter for 2 and the win.

DC (3-1)

The time is now for D.C.’s offense to come alive. With Espindola, Silva, Arrieta, and Rolfe at full strength and Pontius on the verge of returning from a nagging injury, United will pull off the regular season sweep of the Lions.

DC (2-0)

Being in the Citrus Bowl won’t matter, this one won’t be close.
Russ McKenzie

Provided Hamid returns to the net, I don’t see OCSC suddenly becoming an offensive threat against D.C.

Orlando is on a good run of form lately, however D.C. will bring them back to earth on Saturday. D.C. has won both previous meetings against Orlando this season and will continue the trend.

Orlando’s been scoring, but has also relied on luck. BUT, if Bobby Boswell or Perry Kitchen get a card in this match they’re suspended next D.C. game. Throw in a desire to avenge that Luis Silva free kick shocker last time these two played at the Citrus Bowl, and Orlando has to fancy their chances.

Orlando shows why it should be in the top 5 power rankings with an offensive explosion
