(Carson, CA, June 6, 2015) – The Los Angeles Galaxy’s 29 home game unbeaten streak is over. The side lost 1-0 to the Vancouver Whitecaps this past Sunday in another lackluster match that left a lot to be desired.
The Whitecaps have now won both matches over the LA Galaxy this year. They move to 8-6-2 (26 points) and are second in the MLS Western Conference. The LA Galaxy fall to 5-5-6 (21 points).
LA Galaxy’s Home Unbeaten Streak Ends Against Whitecaps
Despite not seeing much of the ball or getting many chances, Vancouver drew first blood in the 32nd minute. Kekuta Manneh intercepted a pass in the midfield and started a counter attack. He finished off the run for his second goal of the season.
The LA Galaxy dominated possession with 65.6 percent with the Whitecaps sitting back having played a weekday match in Montreal. Despite seeing more of the ball, the Galaxy did not register a shot on goal. While having a few good build ups, they never seriously threatened the goal. Vancouver goalkeeper David Ousted recorded his seventh clean sheet of the campaign.
Captain Robbie Keane was able to start and play 90 minutes for the first time in two months for the LA Galaxy. The Galaxy were however shorthanded in this match. Dan Gargan and AJ DeLaGarza are still nursing injuries.
Robbie Rogers is on the mend, as he participated in the LA Galaxy II match that took place at the same time as the first team match. Striker Gyasi Zardes was unavailable due to national team duty. Jose Villarreal was again unavailable due to an ankle sprain last week.
These absences forced Edson Buddle into the starting lineup, who was ineffective and was subbed out Alan Gordon in the 60th minute. Sebastian Lletget made his LA Galaxy debut in the 75th minute subbing on for Ignacio Maganto. Maganto continues to impress in his rookie season.
The LA Galaxy travel to Ohio this Saturday to take on Columbus Crew SC. Kick off is set for 4:30 PM PST.
