The Iowa Cubs have been on a tear in their last few games, most notably on their offensive game and one heavily watched prospect: Javier Baez.
Baez was 4-5 in Tuesday Night’s game in Albuquerque hitting two home runs leading to four RBI’s. Some may wonder if Baez gets called up to Chicago, what the offense would be like in Iowa. However, it does not seem like it would take a damper.
Chicago’s offense is one of the top hitting in the National League and is also supported by a large cast of bench players. If Baez gets the call, the I-Cubs would seemingly begin playing a player who’s not much worse with the bat.
However, a team is not made out of one person of course, however as Javier Baez is getting hot, so is the team. The Iowa Cubs had a few season highs during Tuesday Nights performance. The 9-3 win over Albuquerque improved the team’s record to 27-24, making it their first time three games over .500 this season.
Tuesday was also Iowa’s fourth straight win, and their fourth straight game with 15 hits, both season highs. The team seems to be coming together before it is too late to make a playoff run. After this win, Iowa is seven games behind Oklahoma City for a playoff spot.
On the contrary, another I-Cub is on a roll this year.
Right handed pitcher Donn Roach won his league-leading sixth game of the season and kept his undefeated record. As Chicago struggles with their middle relievers in games this season, it would not be surprising to see Roach get a call-up to the majors as we get closer towards playoff time.
Iowa will try to continue their success as they close out their road trip with three more road games against Albuquerque before an eight game home stand.
