(Louisville, KY, May 29, 2015) – The following is a press release from Saint Louis FC of the USL.
Saint Louis FC Earn Road Point
Saint Louis FC gained a hard-fought point away from home as Charles Renken‘s goal in the 70th minute earned Saint Louis FC a 1-1 draw against Louisville City FC at Slugger Field Saturday night.
With the draw, Saint Louis FC is now 3-3-3 (12 pts.) on the season. Louisville moves to 4-1-5 (17 pts.).
“Given the tough stretch of games recently, I thought both teams did a good job in what was a really grueling battle,” Head Coach Dale Schilly said. “Our guys played on pure determination and guts after playing four games in 13 days.”
After a scoreless first half that featured few chances, Kadeem Dacres gave the hosts the lead in the 50th minute. Charlie Adams swung in a deep cross from the right side, and Dacres rose to head home at the far post.
The lead would not stand up, however, as substitute Charles Renken tied things up 20 minutes later. Patrick Doody played a lofted ball over the Louisville back line, and Renken split a pair of defenders before rifling past goalkeeper Scott Goodwin. It was his first goal of the season.
“I’m very happy for Charles, who has had a pair of great performances as a sub in our last two games,” Schilly said. “He earned a penalty for us on Wednesday (against Minnesota) and he scored the equalizer tonight.”
Schilly also lauded his defenders, who denied a number of quality goal-scoring chances for Louisville during the match.
“Our defending was quite good tonight,” Schilly added. “I’m happy with our guys performed to earn this point on the road.”
Saint Louis FC will be back in action next weekend when it travels to face Pittsburgh Riverhounds on June 6. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM CT.
