Today’s article might seem like a bit of a repeat from a past one, but I assure you it’s not. As I may have mentioned before, one of the great things about streaming is that you can keep going back to the well for the same guys whenever they run into a great matchup, as long as they’re not already owned, of course. So I present to you two streaming pitchers who I’ve already presented to you before! One of these guys might be on his way to moving out of the “Less Than 50% Owned” range. Another is a guy who probably won’t be owned very much, so you can (hopefully) keep going back to him. On to tomorrow’s pitchers!
Streaming Pitchers: 6/1/15
Alex Colome RHP TB (@LAA)
When we last checked in with Alex, I wondered if he could keep the control that he’s shown so far in his first few starts. In his last start against Seattle, he wound up with the most walks he’s had so far in a major league start, with two. So far he’s issued five walks in six starts, making it a 1.52 BB/9 for the year so far. While this doesn’t mean he’s fixed his control issue he’s had in the minors, it’s very promising, especially if his stuff can catch up to his command. He gets another good matchup, this time against the Angels in Angel Stadium. The Angels still haven’t been able to get it going. Though they now have a team wRC+ of 105 at home, they only post a wRC+ of 87 against righties. This might be a chance for a breakout performance from Colome, so see if you can snag him now while he’s still floating out there.
Clay Buchholz RHP BOS (vs MIN)
As I’ve said before, in the right matchup, Clay can look like an ace. He can be very streaky, both in his results and in his skills overall, but I don’t think he should still be available in 60% of leagues. His last three starts have been inspiring, with a 1.99 ERA, a 7.54 K/9, and a 1.19 BB/9. Even though his results have led to a 3.11 FIP and a 3.08 xFIP, those are still great numbers and make for a borderline ace. If the K’s come back around again, and an 11.9% swinging strike rate tends to suggest they should, the borderline tag might have to come off. As far as the matchup goes, it seems like it’s not a great one for him. Yes, the Twins are the hottest team in the AL right now, and yes, they may actually be a better team than they seemed to start the year. But this is still a prime matchup for Clay. Away from home, the Twins only bat a wRC+ of 72, and against righties it’s only at 86. This might be the last chance to grab Clay for either a spot start or for your last pitcher on your roster. You could definitely do worse for a back-end guy.
Good luck and happy streaming!
