Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup – 3rd Round
Saint Louis FC vs. Minnesota United FC
Date: Wednesday, May 27
Time: 7:00 PM
Venue: World Wide Technology Soccer Park; St. Louis, Mo.
LAST TIME OUT: Saint Louis FC was held to a 3-3 draw against USL rivals Louisville City FC Sunday night at the Soccer Park. In a game that was delayed over an hour due to severe weather, STL FC took a one-goal lead on three occassions but was unable to seal the victory. Forwards Jermie Lynch, Mike Ambersley, and Bryan Gaul all found the net for the hosts.
THE OPPONENT: Minnesota United FC enters Wednesday’s match on a three-game winning streak and is unbeaten in its last five matches. On Saturday, Minnesota scored three second-half goals en route to a 3-2 victory over Jacksonville Armada FC. MNUFC is a member of the NASL and will expand to MLS in 2017.
U.S. OPEN CUP: STLFC advanced to Wednesday’s match vs. Minnesota via a 2-1 victory over Des Moines Menace last week. After a late Des Moines penalty kick sent the game to extra time, Lynch followed his own rebound to score the decisive goal in the 97th minute. This will be Minnesota’s first match in the 2015 U.S. Open Cup.
HOMESTAND ENDS: Wednesday’s match will be the last of a five-game homestand for STLFC at Marshall Wireless Stadium. STLFC has gone 2-1-1 on the homestand, scoring a combined seven goals in those four matches.
