Premier League Sunday Preview – The Final Matchday

The final ady of the 2014/2015 Premier League season is almost upon us. Here is this weekends Premier League preview

The last day of the Premier League season is almost upon us and after a season of twists, turns, excitement and disappointment, expect a whole lot more and then some with much at stake on the final day of the season. Here is the last Premier League Sunday preview of the season.

All games on the last day kick off at the same time, Sunday 3pm. This is an attempt to ensure that teams don’t get any kind of advantage over one another.

The main focus will be on who will fill the last relegation place. Currently Hull City on 34 points are in that position but by the end of the day depending on results, it will be either themselves or Newcastle who are on 36 points that will fill the final relegation place and be relegated to the Championship.

Here are the fixtures for the Premier Leagues final day.

Hull City vs Manchester United                                                                                                                                       Hull City who have failed to beat Manchester United in over forty years, know anything less than a victory will see them relegated. Even if they do win it still may not be enough. Manchester United still have a very slim chance of finishing third and thus avoiding a play off to get into the Champions League. However with Arsenal having a +7 goal difference over United, a lot will need to go United’s way.

Newcastle vs West Ham                                                                                                                                                           Newcastle who have lost four and drawn one of their last five at home and picked up only one point from a possible thirty come up against ex manager Sam Allardyce and his West Ham United side. Newcastle know only a win will do as even a point could see them relegated on goal difference. West Ham have little to play for, however Sam Allardyce will be wanting to finish the season off with a victory against his old club.

Manchester City vs Southampton                                                                                                                                         After Arsenals draw at home to Sunderland on Wednesday, Manchester City are now guaranteed to be this seasons Premier League Runners up. Southampton who are still in the hunt of a Europa League place and only two points behind fifth placed Liverpool will hope that they can take advantage of a City side with little to play for.

Arsenal vs West Bromwich Albion                                                                                                                                       Arsenal will clinch third place in the table if they avoid defeat. However even a defeat should see them finish third due to a superior goal difference over Manchester United. West Brom are guaranteed a mid table finish and will be aware that Arsenal have failed to score or win in their last three home games. After Monday’s victory over champions Chelsea, West Brom will be thinking another victory over one of the countries top teams is on the cards.

Stoke vs Liverpool                                                                                                                                                                     After last weeks defeat at home to Crystal Palace, Liverpool are needing a win to make sure they finish in fifth position and send captain Steven Gerrard off to America with one last victory. Last weeks draw with Burnley saw Stoke break their record for the most points in a Premier League season. A home win will cap off an excellent season for them.

Everton vs Tottenham                                                                                                                                                               A good end of season run of form has seen Everton guarantee themselves a respectable mid-table finish. Tottenham want to guarantee themselves European football next season being only a point behind fifth placed Liverpool. Southampton though are close by; being just a point behind, so Mauricio Pochettino will want only the win to make sure they aren’t relying on other teams for favours.

Elsewhere Champions Chelsea face Sunderland whose point on Wednesday night against Arsenal guaranteed their Premier League safety. FA Cup finalists Aston Villa entertain relegated Burnley. Crystal Palace, on a high after their victory at Liverpool last week face Swansea City who after an excellent season have already beaten their previous highest Premier League points total. And in form Leicester City who completed their very own great escape last week, welcome relegated QPR to the King Power Stadium.

With The last Premier League Sunday preview out of the way, the twists and turns still that are highly likely can begin. Many fans will be nervously looking out for latest scores and results from around the grounds hoping that it will be their day. For the rest, they’ll be able to sit back and enjoy as the 2014/2015 Premier League season comes to an end.
