Saint Louis FC Suffers Defeat To Toronto
USL Game Report
(Saint Louis, MO, May 14, 2015) – Despite a first-minute goal from forward Bryan Gaul, Saint Louis FC suffered a 2-1 defeat to Toronto FC II Thursday night at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
With the loss, STL FC falls to 3-3-1 (10 pts.) on the season. Toronto improves its record to 2-4-1 (7 pts.).
Gaul got STL FC off to the perfect start with a goal in the first minute of play. After a turnover by Toronto goalkeeper Alex Bono, Gaul gathered the ball and nailed it home to put STL FC on top.
“The goalie gave me a gift,” Gaul said. “I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time.”
However, Toronto FC II rallied back with two first-half goals from forward Edwin Rivas and midfielder Massimo Mirabelli in the 9th and 38th minute, respectively.
Saint Louis FC tallied 16 shots in the game, including 12 in the second half, but were unable to find the equalizer.
“Our reaction to our goal was poor,” STL FC head coach Dale Schilly said after the game. “You would think it would raise our level, but it may have come too early and to easily.”
Saint Louis FC will continue its four-game home stand next Wednesday when it welcomes the Des Moines Menace to Marshall Wireless Stadium in the 2nd Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM CST.
