Three Saint Louis FC Players Earn Honors
(St. Louis, MO, May 12, 2015) – Saint Louis FC had a pair of players selected to this week’s USL Team of the Week, as defender Sam Fink and goalkeeper Alec Kann were honored following Saturday’s win over Wilmington.
This is the first USL Team of the Week honor for either player. A native of Edwardsville, Fink scored the game-winning goal in STL FC’s 1-0 victory against Wilmington Hammerheads FC on Saturday night. In the 82nd minute, Mike Roach whipped in a corner kick from the right side and Fink rose highest to head home from six yards. It was his first goal of the season.
At the other end of the pitch, Kann made six saves in goal to post the clean sheet and earn his first victory with Saint Louis. In the first half, the Chicago Fire loaned player made a dramatic triple save from close range to keep Wilmington off the board. Then in the second half, Kann stretched to make a fingertip save on a goal-bound Wilmington free kick.
Saint Louis FC defender Richard Dixon has been called in to the Jamaica Men’s National Team for a pair of international competitions this summer. Dixon will be joining his native Jamaica for the Copa America 2015 in Chile from June 11 – July 4, as well as the Gold Cup in USA & Canada from July 7 – July 26.
“This is a great honor for Richard,” STL FC Head Coach Dale Schilly said. “He has taken his game to a new level in the past few months and certainly deserves this call-up. We wish him all the best with Jamaica and look forward to his return later this summer.”
This is Dixon’s first selection for the Jamaican Men’s First Team. He will re-join Saint Louis FC after the completion of the Gold Cup in late July or early August. The Jamaica National Team will assemble in Chile on June 4 as they begin training for Copa America 2015. The squad will then travel directly to North America for the Gold Cup.
Dixon will be with STL FC until he leaves for international duty at the end of May. Saint Louis FC hosts Toronto FC II at World Wide Technology Soccer Park Thursday night at 7:00 PM.
