Sergio Aguero took his impressive Premier League goals tally to 25 as Manchester City registered an emphatic 6-0 victory over a woeful Queen’s Park Rangers side who are now condemned to the Championship.
Manchester City Score Six Against QPR
The Argentine put distance between himself and the chasing pack with a performance worthy of this seasons golden boot. Having kick started the game with a goal within the first minutes, Aguero then added a further two goals to take home the match ball. Having now scored 31 goals in all competitions, it is looking increasingly likely that he will win this years award. A remarkable achievement for any striker, adding bewilderment to his non-inclusion in the PFA Awards and the Team of the Season.
Another vital part of the City team, David Silva produced a magnificent display capped with a goal of his own to take his haul to 12, his best goal scoring season for City since joining the club.
Arguably the two best players to ever wear a City shirt were on top of their game as they dismantled a dreadful Queen’s Park Rangers side who looked destined for the drop. A game for football purists saw the boys in blue pass the ball and play some beautiful free flowing attacking football leaving Queen’s Park Rangers chasing shadows for the majority of the game.
From the front line right to the back, City were dominant all over the pitch with all players putting in an excellent performance. The midfield two of Fernando and Fernandinho was solid, winning the ball well and distributing the ball to the attacking side of the team. Frank Lampard and James Milner accompanied Silva to complete the midfield three behind Aguero with both putting in fine displays. Milner scored City’s fifth goal of the game to take his tally this season to
A retained back four of Pablo Zabaleta, Martin Demichelis, Eliaquim Mangala and Aleksandar Kolarov worked extremely well as a unit to limit QPR’s goal threat. Statistically City’s best central defensive partnership of the season saw Mangala again put in an assured comfortable performance matching his recent run of form. The Frenchman looks to have now settled at the club and a string of games has given him confidence, allowing him to put in performances that City fans hope to see from him next season. Kolarov is also on a good run of form producing yet another sublime free kick to double City’s lead on the 32nd minute.
Joe Hart also produced a solid display in the City net, with little to do over the whole game Hart looked comfortable and kept another clean sheet which puts him level with Simon Mignolet and Fraser Forster, who is ruled out for the rest of the season, on 13. With two games left, City’s main striker is in line for the Golden Boot whilst Joe Hart is still battling for the Golden Glove award which would be a good end to both their seasons.
After a series of faltering performances at the turn of the year, City have regathered their end of season form they seem to gain every year. Winning 4 games consecutively and only two to play City are producing some of the football they have produced over recent years and look to have regained some confidence. Whilst the title was confirmed last weekend, six points from a remaining six available will be still be important for Manuel Pellegrini’s men to try and finish 2nd in the league and finish above the rivals at Old Trafford.
It is a feeling of too little too late this season for the boys in blue but a recent run of form has given something for the fans to smile about along with Champions League football secured for the following season. City travel to the Liberty Stadium next Sunday to face Swansea followed by a final home game at the hands of Southampton. After which, a summer of transfer rumours and gossip lay ahead for City fans as numerous names are already being linked with the club. Although a time filled with outrageous price tags and downright lies, it is an exciting time for City fans as we can all sit back and enjoy the wonders of the Transfer Window.
