UFC Fight Night Adelaide: Miocic vs Hunt Results

UFC Fight Night Adelaide took place in the land down under, Australia Saturday May 9th.

UFC Fight Night Adelaide took place in the land down under, Australia, on Saturday May 9th.   This fight card featured some great match ups. Not only were they stylistically appealing, but their records were almost exactly the same up and down the card. The exception was Mark Hunt and Stipe Miocic who happened to be the Heavyweight main event headliners.

Stipe Miocic def. Mark Hunt via TKO (Round 5, 2:47)

Everyone knew that both fighters possessed knockout power, Miocic is a wrestler and former Golden Gloves champion, Hunt a kickboxer and boxer. Round one began with an early takedown by Miocic but Hunt got right back up and they went back and forth exchanging punches and kicks. Miocic would get a take down and attempt a kimura, but Hunt was able to escape.

In Round 2 Miocic used his jab and standing elbows to keep Hunt at bay.  Eventually Miocic would get a take down.  Despite the fact that Hunt was able to get back up, we started to see that he was unable to keep up with Miocic’s cardio.  Hunt did get a hard combo in very late in the round.

The remainder of the fight was like the first two rounds, rounds 3-5 were all Miocic, as he hit takedowns, and executed strong ground and pound as well as strong ground control. Whenever Hunt was able to get back to his feet, he wasn’t there long. While Hunt continued to show the heart and determination that have become his trademarks, Stipe Miocic was just to much for him.  He eventually got the win via a TKO at 2:47 seconds into the 5th round via referee stoppage. Overall it was a very impressive performance tonight by Stipe Miocic
