It was always a given that Noah Syndergaard would make his way to the 25-man roster sometime this year and now with Dillon Gee headed to the DL, that time seems to be now.
NOAH SYNDERGAARD TO START TUESDAY
Syndergaard is the #1 prospect according to Baseball America in the New York Mets organization and he has electric stuff. His fastball sits in the mid-90s and he features an above average changeup, an above average curveball, and has decent control with room to improve. Syndergaard has been outstanding for AAA Las Vegas this year starting 5 games and tossing 29.2 innings with a 10.31 K/9 rate and a 1.82 ERA (3.05 FIP). His full season 4.60 ERA in 2014 with Las Vegas was below average but I will note that Las Vegas is in the notoriously hitter friendly Pacific Coast League and his 3.70 FIP portrayed his ERA to be a bit inflated. His K-BB% (20.25% between 2014-2015) is solid so that helps us cancel out some of the noise that playing in the PCL can create.
Now Syndergaard is probably going to be good and he’s a must add especially if he’s for some reason available in deep leagues but we should make sure to temper expectations. It’s nice to see Kiley McDaniel’s prospect grade card with a shiny 60 FV (future value, grades between 20-80) hinting of a solid mid-rotation pitcher (possible frontline starter). But he is only 22-years-old and it’s a big step between AAA and the MLB. Expect a couple bumps along the road as he gets acclimated to big league hitting.
After everything is said and done though we recommend you run to the waiver wire and snatch him up faster than “The Road Runner” on steroids (as of now he is owned in 28% of leagues on ESPN and 27% in Yahoo). Seriously this kid has all the tools to make an impact in the league and could be a great addition in your quest for a Fantasy Baseball Championship.
