MLS Pick ‘Em 2015: Week 11 – RBNY v. NYCFC

MLS Pick ‘Em 2015: Week 11 – RBNY v. NYCFC

Last week, Sporting eked out a win over Chicago Fire in Kansas City. For the experts, it was mostly business as usual. Russ continues to pull away from the pack, and I sit lonely on the bottom. Here are the standings:

Player Points Correct Outcome Correct Score Incorrect
Russ McKenzie 10 6 2 5
Jeff Krause 6 6 0 5
Eric Walcott 6 6 0 5
Alec Rivera 6 4 1 7
Ned Joyce 5 3 1 8
Michael Norton 2 2 0 9
John Richan 2 2 0 9
Joseph Goldstein 1 1 0 10

This week we’ve got the first ever Hudson Derby. The Red Bulls come into this one still nursing their first loss of the season after playing a second choice lineup in New England (And still nearly finding a result!). The injury report stays balanced for now. While Ronald Zubar will likely return, Sal Zizzo gets ready for a long stint on the bench thanks to a fractured tibia. NYCFC is coming off a 7-game winless run, with a 3-game losing streak. Their last victory came in the home opener at Yankee Stadium to the same Revs team that tortured the Red Bulls last weekend. City will be able to showcase their stars (who have joined the team so far). Will we see David Villa play hero for the struggling powder blue islanders, or will the Red Bulls show their little brother what’s what? Let’s see what the experts say.

Expert Pick Comments
Joseph GoldsteinAnalyst@LastWord_JG  RBNY (3-1) NYC manages to save face, but the Red Bulls dominate the evening. Bonus points if NYC can walk away from this one without picking up any red cards. Expect this one to be just a bit chippy.
Eric WalcottStaff Writer@ericwalcott  RBNY (1-0) Kreis knows he doesn’t have the team to make a statement in his first New York derby, and he won’t want to get embarrassed. NYCFC will sit back and look to counter, which they don’t have the firepower to do successfully. Red Bull get a late winner.
Alec RiveraDepartment Head@LWOSAlec  NYC (2-1) With Villa in the lineup and Mullins off the bench, the first Hudson Derby ignites the fire with a comeback away win for City. The loss will not sit well with the Red Bulls and their faithful, setting fans up for a heated rivalry.
Jeff KrauseEditor@DFBJeff RBNY (2-1) Villa back in the lineup will bode well for NYCFC, and will take some of the pressure off Mix to carry the team on his shoulders, but the Red Bulls are making a case for themselves in the East, and NYC is looking more and more like an expansion side every week.
Russ McKenzieDepartment Head@Russ_McKenzie  RBNY (2-0) The Red Bulls have the innate ability to shred defenses to bits at will with their high press. The message all week has been one of fight hard no matter the score. Blue Team will have no answer for the Red Bulls and the Hudson Derby part 1 will go to the home club.
John RichanStaff Writer@John_Richan  RBNY (3-0) This will be a complete beat down. The team in blue might be the darlings of NY at the moment however they will be knocked around the park in this first derby. Who knows, could it be the start of a beautiful rivalry?
Michael NortonEditor@MichaelNorton95  RBNY (3-2) Everyone’s talking about David Villa, but how about Sacha Kljestan? He’s been worth that allocation tussle to acquire, and his crossing has been excellent. He’ll be the difference maker with a goal and an assist.
Ned JoyceContributor@nedjoyce  Draw (1-1) Villa and BWP trade goals but both teams leave disappointed. NYCFC dominates and Mike Petke laughs in corner
