Tottenham Hotspur Summer 2015 – Potential Sales

With most teams down to their last 4-5 games of this Premier League season, many clubs probably already have plans for shifting the dead wood when the transfer window rocks around. Due to the emergence of academy players such as Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb, some big money signings could be deemed surplus to requirements by manager Mauricio Pochettino and may already be on the look for a new club this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur Summer 2015 – Potential Sales

Younes Kaboul

Surprisingly, the new Tottenham captain has found game time hard to come by the season, just months after securing the armband as successor to Michael Dawson who was sold to Hull last August. Struggling to even make the bench, especially, in recent months, time could be up at White Hart Lane for the once French international centre back. Rumours circulated in February that Besiktas were chasing his signature along with London rivals West Ham, although the Turkish club’s approach was reportedly rejected by Daniel Levy. With Jan Vertonghen, Eric Dier, Federico Fazio and even Vlad Chiriches being preferred to the Frenchman, Tottenham could be looking to cash in on the defender.

Etienne Capoue

Similarly to Younes Kaboul, another French player struggling to even make the substitutes in recent times is midfielder Etienne Capoue. Signed from Toulouse as one of the ‘Big Seven’ that were bought with the money received from the sale of Gareth Bale, from day one he never really cemented his place in Tottenham’s midfield. He was pushed even further down the pecking order with the introduction of Nabil Bentaleb by Tim Sherwood and especially recently has been featuring more for the reserves than the first team. In January, Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion were apparently interested in securing his services and if they are still interested, it would be surprising for Spurs to be reluctant to let him leave.

Emmanuel Adebayor

Probably the most expected name on this list, the Togolese forward doesn’t seem to have any place in Pochettino’s plans for next season. Although he started the first handful of games early on in the season, the scintillating form of Harry Kane in the Europa League lead him to become Tottenham’s main starting striker in the Premier League and the rest of the season. With Roberto Soldado seemingly second choice, it seems inevitable that Tottenham are going to look to move the African forward on and likely bring in a more suitable replacement.

Hugo Lloris

A terrifying thought for most Spurs’ fans but one that has to be considered. It looks incredibly unlikely that Tottenham are going to be able to offer Lloris the satisfaction of Champions League football this year, with Europa League again looking like the most likely. For a goalkeeper of Lloris’ standards, who has produced world class saves and game saving moments all season for The Lilywhites, it seems the Europa League isn’t going to be enough for the French shot stopper. Factor in that Spanish giants Real Madrid are in the market for a goalkeeper and are eyeing up either Lloris or Manchester United ‘keeper David De Gea, Spurs may be powerless to resist if Real Madrid make a satisfactory bid.

Lewis Holtby

Maybe a forgotten man at Tottenham these days, but the German out on loan at Hamburger SV is very much still contracted to the North London club. However, with rumours that Holtby wishes to stay in Germany, the rumours that there is a future buy-out fee in his contract and that Hamburg are interested in securing the services of the enthusiastic midfielder permanently, the chances of Holtby featuring under Pochettino next season are slim.
