BREAKING: Jon Jones Stripped of UFC Title, Cormier vs. Rumble for Vacant Championship

Dana White has announced that Jon Jones has been stripped of the UFC Light-Heavyweight Championship and suspended indefinitely. Jones was stripped of the title due to violating the UFC Code of Conduct Policy with his felony charge in Albuquerque, New Mexico earlier this week.

Daniel Cormier will now step in to replace Jon Jones at UFC 187, fighting Anthony “Rumble” Johnson for the vacant UFC Light-Heavyweight Championship.

Cormier was set to face Ryan Bader on an upcoming UFC Fight Night Card.  UFC executives have stated that a decision on a new opponent for Bader should be announced in the next few days.

The UFC released a statement on the decision to suspend Jones.

“UFC feels strongly that its athletes must uphold certain standards both in and out of the Octagon. While there is disappointment in the recent charges, the organization remains supportive of Jones as he works through the legal system.”

Jon Jones was arrested yesterday after Albuquerque police connected him to a hit and run incident that left a pregnant woman with a broken arm. Jones allegedly fled the scene of the accident on foot. He is now facing a felony charge of leaving the scene of a crime.

 

Update: Reebok has terminated the multi-million dollar endorsement deal that they had with Jon Jones in light of his recent arrest.  Jones signed the Reebok deal after he lost his endorsement deal with Nike.  The deal was signed late last year, and commercials featuring Jones had just begun to

“In light of recent events, we have made the decision to terminate our contract with Jon Jones, effective immediately,” a statement from the company read.
