An Interview with Iowa Barnstormer Ken Van Heule

The Iowa Barnstormers kicked off their inaugural IFL season earlier this year and LWOS is sitting down with their first player in offensive lineman Ken Van Heule.

Ken Van Heule #62

Pos: OL
Ht: 6’4″ Wt: 315 Lbs.
DOB: 11/27/1989
College: Midwestern State

Connor Ferguson: Where’s your hometown?

Ken Van Heule: Hurst, Texas.

CF: What was your high school called and how are they at football?

KVH: My High School was called L. D. Bell high school and they are very good. Always a playoff team and very dedicated, tough athletes have come from my high school.

CF: What teams did you play for after LD Bell? How did you wind up in the IFL?

KVH: I played for University of Houston for two years, Cisco Junior College for one year and Midwestern State for two years. Last year I played for the Omaha Beef. After I heard coach Joe got the head coach job here I gave him a call to congratulate him and also see if he still wanted me to play for him and that’s how I ended up here in the IFL with the Iowa Barnstormers.

CF: How do you like Des Moines as a city? And what about the fans here?

KVH: I like it. [I can’t] lie, very different coming from living in Dallas and Houston Texas. Kind of reminds me of Omaha. Not to big and not to small. Can’t get into much trouble here. And the fans here are great. I love how dedicated they are to the team and how they support us no matter what and always have our backs. Great place to be playing indoor football at.

CF: How are you guys preparing for Sioux Falls – Four time defending champions?

KVH: We are preparing for them like we do every team. Taking it day by day and focusing on what we need to do to win. Staying focused and working hard on and off the field.

CF: How is Sioux Falls’ defensive line?

KVH: [I can’t] lie their defensive line is good. Being 4× defending Champs they have to be good and always get better to keep their title. But that doesn’t mean they can’t be beaten. They are beatable. Any team is beatable just gotta execute and fight the whole game.
