Collin Martin Undergoes Successful Surgery
Homegrown midfielder expected to miss 4-6 weeks
Washington, D.C. (April 9, 2015) – D.C. United has announced that midfielder Collin Martin is expected to miss the next 4 to 6 weeks following a bilateral inguinal nerve release performed by William Hutchinson, M.D., in Santa Monica, Calif.
Martin, 20, has one assist in 13 career appearances (six starts) for the Black-and-Red since 2013, when he became the sixth D.C. United Academy player to sign with the First Team. In 2014, Martin had three assists in five starts on loan with the USL Richmond Kickers. He has not yet appeared for the club in 2015.
The news comes just days after D.C. United learned that central defender, and U.S. National Team call-up Steve Birnbaum had a sprained ankle and would also be out for the next four to six weeks.
The injury list for D.C. United is getting long early in the MLS campaign as in addition to Martin and Birnbaum, they are also without Forwards Fabian Espindola (six-game suspension), Luis Silva (hamstring) and Eddie Johnson (heart condition), as well as midfielder-defender Markus Halsti (knee), all of whom have yet to play this season.
