The following Press Release comes from the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League.
B.C. Lions re-sign Marco Iannuzzi
Vancouver, B.C. – The B.C. Lions have re-signed Canadian receiver and kickoff returner Marco Iannuzzi to a two-year contract extension.
Iannuzzi was not a major contributor in the air, with only 11 catches in 14 games in 2014. However, he’s a legitimate threat on special teams, picking up 401 yards on only 19 kickoff returns in the same year. Keeping up a 20-yard average on kickoff returns is reason enough for the Lions to keep him on the squad.
B.C. originally picked up Iannuzzi as their first-round pick (6th overall) in the 2009 draft. He has played his entire career in Vancouver, making 73 catches for 786 yards and picking up seven touchdowns in that time.
The move comes on the heels of the Lions signing a pair of international players with connections to new coach Jeff Tedford. The signed international receiver Cameron Morrah and international running back Brendan Bigelow on Tuesday. Tedford coach both Morrah and Bigelow in the NCAA, with the where they played for him with the University of California Golden Bears.
Morrah, 28, played 27 games for the Seattle Seahawks from 2009 to 2011; and also spent time with San Francisco, Detroit and Denver. He got limited playing time in his NFL stint.
Bigelow, 22, attended the Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp last season after four years at Cal under Tedford.
The two Cal products join fellow former Cal receiver Lavelle Hawkins, 28, on the Lions’ roster as he signed with the team last month. Tedford also coached Hawkins.
