It was the visitors who started the game the brighter, with Tom Pett wasting an early chance before the Boro’s opening goal. Brewers on loan Derby County midfielder Tom Naylor messed up after a Simon Walton effort was dealt with poorly and ended up in his own net. After the goal, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbainks men regrouped and were unlucky not to be level after defender Shane Cansdell-Sherriff had his goal ruled off for offside.

Burton did find an equaliser, and this time it was Stevenage defender Bira Dembele who was in the wrong place, as John Mousinho’s header bounced off Dembele into his own net.

On Saturday, the game at Bury was called off due to a waterlogged pitch, but fortunately, even with the rain deteriorating the pitch, referee Gary Sutton kept the game flowing on Monday night.

Burton had the better of the second half, as Phil Edwards saw his header strike the post, before striker Abdenasser El Khayati blasted over from just ten yards.  Despite the opportunities the teams were unable to settle the deadlock.

The result ended the Brewers run of four straight victories, but they are still three points clear of both Shrewsbury and Wycombe at the top of the lead.  Burton Albion are a further ten points ahead of the play-off pack. Stevenage Borough FC meanwhile remain in 9th place on the table, but are just two points off the coveted playoff spots.
