FANTASY PROFILE: GIANCARLO STANTON, OF, MIAMI MARLINS
LWOS Ranking 3, Captains’ Value: $21.57
If hitting long homeruns and breaking scoreboards were a fantasy category, Giancarlo Stanton would be the unquestioned number one pick in drafts. In fact, if it weren’t for some guy named Mike Trout, Stanton may actually be the first overall pick. Stanton, without a doubt, has the most natural power in the league, averaging 415.3 ft per HR in 2014. This ranked only behind Matt Holiday, who happened to hit 17 less HR than Stanton. If healthy, Giancarlo Stanton is a lock for 35-40 homeruns.
As crazy as it sounds, Stanton can still improve from last season. The 25 year old struck out 170 times in 2014, registering a dreadful K% at 26.6%. His BB% was excellent, but Stanton will still need to cut down on the strikeouts if he wants to maintain a high average. Stanton’s RBI and Runs totals are also likely to go up in 2015. This offseason, the Marlins added Dee Gordon, Martin Prado, and Michael Morse to an already productive lineup, giving Stanton extra protection and more at-bats with runners on base.
Starting your team off with a guy who hit 37 HR with 105 RBI and 13 SB is a luxury very few fantasy owners get. Yes, Mike Trout is the unanimous first pick, but if you have the second pick in the draft, I say use it on Stanton. Expect another top 5 fantasy season for Giancarlo Stanton in 2015.
