Games are taking place over three days this weekend, with one fixture on both Friday and Monday, with the remaining ten games on Saturday. Two sides in the playoffs meet, and four of the bottom seven face up against each other. Here is your League Two Preview for March 28:
Friday 27th March
Accrington Stanley vs Newport County
The first game this weekend takes place at the Crown Ground where Accrington host play-off hopefuls Newport. Following the Exiles draw on the road at Plymouth last time out, they moved into the playoffs, where they face a Stanley side who have failed to win in their last six games.
Saturday 28th March
Portsmouth vs Shrewsbury Town
Shrewsbury occupy a top three spot going into this fixture and will look to remain there when they face a Pompey side who are unbeaten in six games at Fratton Park. The Shrews have won their last two fixtures, and will be looking extend the gap above the playoffs with three more points.
Dagenham and Redbridge vs Wycombe Wanderers
The Daggers host promotion hopefuls Wycombe this weekend where they have won four of their previous six games at Victoria Road. Wycombe are unbeaten in seven following Tuesday nights 3-2 win at Luton, and are now 12 games unbeaten on the road, as they look to consolidate a top three finish.
Bury vs Southend United
4th meet 5th at Gigg Lane where Bury host Southend. Bury sit four points clear of the Shrimpers ahead of kick-off, following a run of three straight victories. Also for the Shakers, they’ve lost just once in their previous ten games, whilst Southend haven’t won in two, following a defeat and last weeks goalless draw.
Northampton Town vs Luton Town
Northampton have slipped further afield from the playoffs following two successive defeats, but the Cobblers will be looking to push their promotion bid back on track when an out of form Luton visit Sixfields. Before their defeat against strugglers Carlisle, Northampton had won their previous six games at home, whilst Luton have lost their last five games in succession following Tuesday nights defeat at home to Wycombe. In addition, they’ve also lost their last five away games too, but remain in the playoffs.
Cheltenham Town vs Plymouth Argyle
Plymouth are the side sitting just outside the playoffs, and will be looking to regain a top seven spot when they visit relegation threatened Cheltenham. The Robins are without a win in five, and have won just once in 13 games. As for Plymouth, they are without a win on the road in three attempts, and have won just once from their last six games.
Exeter City vs Morcambe
With Stevenage in action on Monday night against league leaders Burton, Exeter could move level on points with a win at home to Morecambe. The Grecians are unbeaten in five games and are now just four points off a play-off place, whilst the Shrimps home form of four successive defeats has seen them slip to 14th, but are unbeaten in four games on the road.
Tranmere Rovers vs A.F.C Wimbledon
Tranmere are safe but only on goal difference as they prepare to host a Wimbledon side who are without a win on the road in eight games, losing their previous three in succession. Tranmere have lost their last three home games, winning only twice in their last ten games, form the Rovers will need to turn around if they’re to avoid the drop this season.
Mansfield Town vs York City
Mansfield Town sit in 17th following last weeks defeat on the road to bottom club Hartlepool, with York just one point above the drop. On the road, York have won just twice in their last ten games, and are without a win in their last four games. With a couple of sides near the drop seeming to pick up form, the Minstermen will also need to find some points if they hope to avoid relegation.
Hartlepool United vs Cambridge United
Hartlepool have rejuvenated in the past few weeks, and have won their last three games in the league. The Pools are now just one point behind Cheltenham and Tranmere as they look to achieve a remarkable escape. Their opponents Cambridge are without a win in five games, and are seven points from safety.
Oxford United vs Carlisle
The final game on Saturday takes place at the Kassam Stadium where Oxford host Carlisle. Both sides are at the wrong end of the table in a must win game for both sides. The U’s suffered their first defeat in six two weeks ago, but have now lost two in succession, whilst Carlisle are unbeaten in three following two home draws and an away win. Oxford are six points from safety, with the Cumbrians four points clear ahead of kick-off.
Monday 30th March
Burton Albion vs Stevenage
League leaders Burton prepare to host play-off hopefuls Stevenage with the Brewers on a four game winning run as they look to achieve promotion. Burton, after last weekend’s fixtures, are nine points ahead of the playoffs, and five points ahead of Shrewsbury. Stevenage suffered a significant setback for the playoffs last week when they were beaten at home by Dagenham, but the Boro are unbeaten in their last four away games.
