Fantasy Profile: Justin Upton, OF, San Diego Padres

FANTASY PROFILE: Justin Upton, OF, San Diego Padres

LWOS Ranking 13, Captain’s Value: $14.92

Over the last several years, Justin Upton has established himself as one of the elite outfielders in baseball. While he hasn’t stolen as many bases as he did in the past, he can has provided strong totals in all other categories.

One concern that may be out there is that his HR totals may decrease due to his trade to the San Diego Padres and having to play his home games at Petco Park. This concern should be mitigated by the fact that Upton has demonstrated the ability to hit well at this stadium. In 192 career PA, Upton has hit .291 with 10 HR at Petco Park.

Another counter-argument for Upton’s value would be that the number of runs scored has decreased over the last few seasons. This stat should rebound in 2015 as Upton moves from a Braves team that struggled to score runs to a Padres team that is on track to have an improved offense this season.

On the surface, it may appear that a lot of things have changed as it regards the fantasy value of Upton. However, he should continue to produce very strong numbers and be an early round pick this season.
