FANTASY PROFILE: Oswaldo Arcia, OF, Minnesota Twins

LWOS Ranking 48, Captain’s Value: $5.33

Last year, Oswaldo Arcia hit 20 HR despite having to play his home games at Target Field and only having 410 PA. Even Target Field was unable to constrain his ability to hit for power as he hit 12 HR in 195 PA at home last season. This year, Arcia appears to be on track to get even more frequent playing time which could be enough for him to provide 25-30 HR power.

Despite his high power ceiling, there are some things you need to consider if you decide to draft Arcia. Last year, he had an AVG of .231 and he struck out in 31% of his plate appearances. If Arcia is going to ever go from a flawed power hitter to a top notch hitter, improving in these areas are a must.

The good news is that there are indicators that Arcia is capable of improving in these areas. In the minors his K% was lower (typically in the 20-23%) range. Also, he is only 23 indicating that he hasn’t reached his peak yet. For this year, he has a decent change to at least get his AVG near .250 and be a strong asset in the power category as he is capable of hitting 30 HR this year if things break right.
