FANTASY PROFILE: Matt Holliday, OF, St. Louis Cardinals

LWOS Ranking: 24, Captain’s Value: $15.83

Matt Holliday has been a core piece of the St. Louis Cardinals offense since 2009, and has produced consistent stats for fantasy owners even longer.  Whether it is his age entering 2015 (35 years-old) or just a lack of flash, many fantasy owners seem to have soured on Holliday.  His batting average did decline in 2014, and he had less success than usual against right handed pitching with a .264 AVG.  However, when looking closer at his season, Holliday maintained a solid walk rate (11.1%) and contact rate (83%), while seeing his BABIP drop to a career low .298.

Over the past 5 seasons Holliday has averaged 547 ABs with 23 HRs, and 92 RBIs with a .295 batting average.  He may not steal many bases, yet he does put together strong run totals with averaging 91 per season since 2010.  Many owners may point to a decline in batting average in 2014 as a sign of regression in 2015; however Holliday finished 2014 strong with 4 HRs and a .380 OBP in September.  Many fantasy owners may be looking for the next superstar this fantasy season; however one could do far worse than a proven fantasy producer in Holliday.
