As Brian Vickers sat out NASCAR’s second race of the season at Atlanta, Brett Moffitt was racing his way to the top. By avoiding debris and wrecks, the Iowa native worked his way through the field finishing eighth in his first race of 2015.
Brett Moffitt looks make the most of opportunity (Again) as Brian Vickers forced to sit out due to blood clots
Vickers was again diagnosed with blood clots this week and will go through treatment with medicine. While on the medication, Vickers is not allowed to race and again will be sidelined.
Michael Waltrip Motorsports has no timetable for Vickers’ return and released this statement on his blood clot issues.
“First and foremost our thoughts are with Brian and his family. He isn’t just our race car driver, he is our friend and we know the NASCAR community will continue to rally around Brian. We are fortunate to have Brett Moffitt in our system and marveled at his great drive in Atlanta three weeks ago, so we know he can get the job done in the No. 55 this weekend. As this news is very fresh and the situation is very fluid, we can only plan for this weekend at this point.”
In 2014, Moffitt started seven races for Identity Ventures Racing with his best finish in his debut at Dover International Speedway (22nd.) Then of course in his eighth NASCAR Sprint a Cup Series start, he tallied his first top ten at Atlanta.
The 22 year old finished 37th and 32nd the last two weeks racing for Front Row Motorsports, while subbing for David Ragan, who on the contrary was subbing for an injured Kyle Busch.
*LWOS would like to take this time to wish Brian a fast recovery during his battle with blood clots.
