Linebacker Joe Thornton signs with Alouettes

No its not “That” Joe Thornton. This Joe Thornton was a safety and linebacker at the University of West Virginia State, and for the Colorado Ice of the Indoor football League. Its unclear where the Alouettes see him lining up, but given his size he could be part of either the linebacking group or the secondary. Thornton may also help the Alouettes on Special Teams.

The following is the full press release from the Montreal Alouettes and the Canadian Football League.

Joe Thornton to suit up for the Alouettes

The Montreal Alouettes announced on Friday that the club has added international linebacker Joe Thornton to the roster after he signed a two-year contract with the team.

In four seasons in the IFL, the Houston, TX native accumulated 235 tackles and eight interceptions in 32 games.

Prior to turning pro, Thornton played four seasons for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Mocs with who he recorded 269 tackles, including 32.5 for losses.
