NCAA Men’s Basketball Conference Tournaments: Big 12 Results

March 11-14 Sprint Center, Kansas City, MO

The Big 12 Championship Game

#2 Iowa State vs. #1 Kansas: 70-66

The Iowa State Cyclones found themselves down by 17 early in the second half, but the comeback kids from Ames, Iowa found a way to do it again. ISU knocked off Kansas winning the season series 2-1 and making a case to grab a 2 seed in the bracket. This is the Cyclones’ second straight Big 12 Tournament win.

Day 3: Semifinals

#1 Kansas vs. #4 Baylor: 62-52

The Jayhawks caught Baylor on an off night. Holding the Bears to 18 points in the first half, KU advanced to the Big 12 Championship to face the winner of Iowa State – Oklahoma.

#2 Iowa State vs. #3 Oklahoma: 67-65

Iowa State continued their ways of the comeback to beat Oklahoma on Friday Night. Ryan Spangler missed an open layup when the ball slipped out of his hand with just seconds to play.

Day 2: Quarterfinals

#4 Baylor vs. #5 West Virginia: 80-70

Baylor continued their end of season hot streak with a win over the highly energized West Virginia Mountaineers. The Bears, when hot are a dangerous tournament team.

#1 Kansas vs. #9 TCU: 64-59

The top seeded Jayhawks escaped the TCU team that for some reason always gives them trouble. Kansas would advance to play a red hot Baylor team in the Semifinals.

#2 Iowa State vs. #7 Texas: 69-67

The Cyclones found a way to do it, after being down by double digits, they came back to beat Texas and advance in tourney play. They didn’t lead the entire game until after the buzzer sounded.

#3 Oklahoma vs. #6 Oklahoma State: 64-49

Oklahoma made the Cowboys look like an NIT team on Thursday Night, cruising into the Semifinals. The Big 12’s top four teams did not disappoint all day.

Day 1: “The Play In Round”

#9 TCU vs. #8 Kansas State: 67-65

It was a very fitting end to Kansas State’s season on Wednesday when the Wildcats were downed by TCU. That team could be good enough to beat anyone on one night, then lay an egg on the next.

#7 Texas vs. #10 Texas Tech: 65-53

Texas held strong when it mattered the most as a loss to the Red Raiders might have taken the Longhorns out of the tournament.
