Can Manchester United keep David de Gea?

Manchester United’s David De Gea has been arguably the best player for the club this season. The 24-year old Spaniard has improved since joining the club in 2011. De Gea has worked his way to becoming one of the best keepers in the game.

With just 18 months left on his contract,  will De Gea sign a new deal with is current club or leave this summer? It most difficult to say he is going to stay judging from the way things have gone for Manchester United for the past two seasons. The defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford in the FA Cup quarter finals meant that Manchester United’s hopes of a silverware this season are all but over. This will be the second season in a row the club will go without a trophy. Manchester United are currently struggling to secure a spot in top four and qualify for next seasons Uefa Champions League. With a difficult schedule ahead, it can be said the club is far from securing that spot. If the Manchester United fail to make top four, it will be very difficult to keep the young Spaniard at the club for next season.

Manchester United were rumoured to have offered the goalkeeper a £200,00 a week deal, more than any other club were willing to pay. The player however is said to have turned down the staggering offer alerting Real Madrid of a possible move for the shot stopper. Reports from the Spanish capital said Real Madrid would attempt to use Gareth Bale as part of the deal to lure De Gea from Manchester United. If Manchester United fail to make it to the Champions League next season the Los Blancos will be hoping the keeper himself will be wanting out of the club.

With De Gea not committing to the new offer on the table from his current employers  Manchester United, he will have until 2016 summer to become a free agent. This makes it unrealistic for Real Madrid to pay £50 million next summer instead of waiting for 2016 summer to have him as a free agent.

It comes as no surprise to see De Gea strongly linked  to Real Madrid. A move away from Old Trafford to the Spanish capital seems very mutual for both parties and here is why.

Real Madrid need De Gea to replace Casillas:

Real Madrid will be looking to replace their captain and goalkeeper Iker Casillas who has not been convincing for some time now. Casillas could be blamed for three of the four goals he conceded on Tuesday in the Uefa Champions League against Roberto Di Matteo’s Schalke 04. The Spanish captain has been world class for generations and won everything there is to win the game but he looks a shadow of himself now. This will be the best time to bring in the young Spaniard from England to replace him.

De Gea is in an amazing form and has room for improvement, he is young, knows the Spanish game already and to top it up he is Spanish and will need less time to settle in. Truth is Real Madrid almost always get who they want and if indeed Florentino Perez wants De Gea to be his next Galactico, it will be difficult say the move will not happen.

De Gea will wants trophies:

Realistically every player wants to win trophies and that might be what will tempt De Gea ino join Real Madrid. With Manchester United’s current situation, it is hard to say the club is a title challenging side. No doubt about it Real Madrid will challenge for every trophy available to them every season. Everyone is applauding De Gea for his improvement and form over the last few months but in truth he has nothing to show for it. That is exactly what  Real Madrid can offer the young man-trophies. Real Madrid will offer him Champions League football, something few players would want to reject.

The young man is Spanish and joining Real Madrid will be a huge step in his career probably a dream coming into reality. He might probably feel it is a once in a lifetime opportunity and it might not present itself again. With De Gea’s girlfriend living in Spain it will look some kind of reunion to him. It is rumoured the partner of Manchester United’s number doesn’t like Manchester.

Manchester United however will do all they can to keep their best player. Jorge Mendes the agent of the player has said De Gea is happy at Manchester and it is likely he will turn down the Spanish giants and stay at Manchester United having said in earlier interviews that Real Madrid were going to be difficult to resist.

Mendes said: “De Gea has one year left on his contract and I think that he will stay in Manchester. The player will decide, but he’s happy there, at the moment.”

So that is it, the player will decide and for Manchester United fan, they will hope the decision goes in their favour and for Real Madrid fans they will hope Florentino Perez would want to sing him. Only time will tell were De Gea’s future will be.
