Wow, what a difference one offseason can make for the Buffalo Bills. The funny thing is, free agency hasn’t even started yet! When Mr. and Mrs. Pegula took over this team, the “BillsMafia” saw it as a sign of relief! A sign of hope! A sign that one-day playoffs will become a yearly event in Orchard Park, NY. I will be focusing on the three acquisitions the Bills made thus far.
Matt Cassel coming to Buffalo had a lot of people groaning. There was certainly a lack of excitement in the air. I believe that Cassel will bring a game-manager mentality to the huddle in September. He will command the respect of his teammates around him. With Greg Roman running his “ground and pound” offense, Cassel will not be asked to win the games every week. Cassel is 32 years old and I believe he has a lot of juice still left in the tank to be an effective part of Roman’s scheme! With the addition of LeSean McCoy and having Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods and retaining Fred Jackson, I truly believe the Bills can end their playoff drought and have the national media talking again and finally giving the Bills the respect they deserve!
Oh boy! LeSean McCoy..what can I say about this move! I’m beyond excited about the endless possibilities of what is to come in 2015. I really hate to say this, but I truly do not believe this would’ve happened with Mr. Wilson at he helm. I love what Mr. Wilson has done for this team and have respected that man since I became a fan at the age of one day old. But from a reality standpoint, I just couldn’t see that happening. But enough of what could’ve been; let’s talk about what is! In the past two seasons, McCoy had over 3,000 yards and 14 touchdowns. Now BillsMafia, how can you not be excited about that! Bringing in McCoy shows the Bills mean business and are willing to lure in top free agents and make blockbuster trades!
When I found out today that the Bills signed Jerry Hughes, I couldn’t have been more excited. The Bills turned a ho-hum trade into one of the biggest steals in Buffalo Bills history! Before Hughes got to the Bills, he was labeled a bust. With only 5 sacks in three years and 62 tackles, how could you not? But that all changed when he was introduced into Mike Pettine’s defense! The Bills knew how to use Hughes effectively! Ten sacks the past two years led Hughes to be one of the most sought-after free agent outside linebackers on the market! When I heard Bills general manager Doug Whaley mention he was confident they were going to get a deal done, I believed that for the first time in a long time. The reason being is we have an organization that wants to win and will do whatever it takes to win. This, in my opinion, is a true example of why teams in the NFL or any sport need fantastic owners such as Terry and Kim Pegula! I’m looking forward to when the clock strikes 3 p.m. tomorrow and free agency begins. Let the chaos commence!
