Report: Frank Gore to Sign with Indianapolis Colts… Eventually

Frank Gore Signs with Indianapolis Colts... eventually.

Frank Gore has kept everyone guessing this offseason but according to reports will finally sign with the Indianapolis Colts for a deal that is believed to be a 3-year, $12 Million contract, with $7.5 Million guaranteed.

Surprising everyone late last night when he reneged on an oral agreement with the Philadelphia Eagles, Frank Gore became one of the hottest commodities on the Free Agency radar. Initially we at Last Word had reported that Gore had indeed signed for the Eagles but per NFL rules no player can enter into a contract before the start of the league year. Gore had expressed getting cold feet late Monday evening when rumours of interest from Indianapolis started to surface. This is one of the dangers in reporting during the official tampering period and indeed the NFL stepped in Monday morning to warn teams that if they announced any signings before the start of the league year they would be punished.

While Gore is fast approaching the twilight of his stellar career at 31, he has averaged over a thousand yards in rushing in 8 of his 10 years in the league and has not finished under a thousand total yards since his rookie season. Drafted in the third round of the 2005 draft by the San Francisco 49ers Gore has not looked back, appearing in 5 Pro-Bowls, a Championship game and being named league rushing leader in 2006 and barring a fractured hip in 2010 has been relatively healthy.

While the market for aged running backs may be closing, Gore has enough of a pedigree to be coveted by many.
