Fantasy Profile: Kyle Seager, 3B, Seattle Mariners

FANTASY PROFILE: KYLE SEAGER, 3B, SEATTLE MARINERS

LWOS Ranking 4, Captain’s Value: $10.85

How much is consistency worth at a shallow position? If you could get a 27-year old third baseman with solid plate discipline (18.0% K/8.0% BB) in the 5^th to 6^th round of your draft, and is all-but-guaranteed .260 with 22 HR, 8 SB, and 150 R+RBI with upside to exceed all of those numbers, would you take it? If the answer is yes, then Kyle Seager is your man.

In his first three full seasons, Seager has produced nearly that exact line three straight years, with the only minor outlier being a 69 RBI year in 2013, where he spent the majority of the year hitting near the top of a terrible lineup and did not have the opportunity to drive in many runs.

Many owners will shy away from the early plunge on Seager due to Safeco Field and a less than spectacular batting average, but as a player who hit .300+ at all three levels in the minors, there is room from improvement in that area towards the .280 range, especially after posting a career high .268 mark last season. Some of those additional hits will be home runs, so it is not farfetched to think he could record something in the range of a .280/80/30/100/10 season in the near future, possibly this year. Consider taking Seager around pick #60 of your draft and be happy with his guaranteed floor and potential ceiling.
