FANTASY PROFILE: TREVOR PLOUFFE, 3B, MINNESOTA TWINS
LWOS RANKING 20, CAPTAIN’S VALUE: $3.18
Trevor Plouffe had his best overall year for the Minnesota Twins in 2014. He set career highs in PAs, runs, RBI, batting average, and on-base percentage, and also posted career-best strikeout and walk rates. The improvements appear sustainable, as he has shown improvements in plate discipline and has developed the ability to drive the ball to different parts of the field.
He’s not going to wow you in any particular area, but the 28-year-old Plouffe has grown into a well-rounded third baseman in both fantasy and real life. If you miss out on the top 15 or so 3B in deeper leagues he can provide some value with some decent pop (a career .415 slugging percentage) and 15-ish home runs.
There is, of course, all-world prospect Miguel Sano on his way up to the bigs. But his 2014 Tommy John surgery and Plouffe’s improvements in 2014 are signs that point to at least one more year in the minors for Sano.
