FANTASY PROFILE: CASEY MCGEHEE, 3B, SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS
LWOS Ranking 29, Captain’s Value: -$2.56
As a Brewers fan, I was happy for Casey McGehee last year as he had somewhat of a bounce back season with the Marlins. He had for a solid AVG (.287) and threw in a respectable amount of RBI (76).
Looking at things from a pure numbers standpoint, his performance from last year is a mirage. His BABIP was 38 points above his career total, indicating that his AVG is going to decrease substantially. Even with his BABIP fueled bounce back, one thing that did not come back was his power (his career high in HR was 23 which he achieved in 2010). Last year, he only hit 4 HR. Since he will be playing for the Giants and thus playing his home games at AT & T park, it is extremely unlikely he will even crack double digit HR totals.
It is likely that the Giants will learn the hard way that the odds are stacked against McGehee in repeating last year’s production. Based on this, we would advise you look elsewhere for the 3B position.
