Yesterday evening, the news broke out that Mike Ribeiro‘s former nanny is suing the Nashville Predators center for alleged sexual assault that dates back to 2012. In addition, that the nanny is also suing Ribeiro’s wife for uttering threats. However, there currently stands no specific details contained in the lawsuit aside from Ribeiro causing body injury, just after the nanny graduated from high school, when he knowingly acted out.
The nanny is looking to sue up to $1 million for damages and relief. The lawsuit was first filed July 24th, 2014 and is currently in the federal court in Texas. Her attorney, Larry Friedman, says she didn’t go to authorities because she was terrified. The incident took place during Ribeiro’s stint between his time with the Washington Capitals and the Dallas Stars. Last year, Ribeiro was bought out of his three remaining years with the Arizona Coyotes due to “behavioral issues” that the team couldn’t handle.
Ribeiro commented on behalf of his attorney that he plans to vigorously fight the lawsuit. At the same time, he will remain focused on helping the Central Division-leading Preds win their first ever Stanley Cup.
The Predators released this in a statement:
“Mike has indicated that the charge is without merit and is prepared to vigorously defend himself. We will allow the legal process to move forward without further comment.”

The team also noted that they did speak with the 35-year old Montreal native and his wife before signing him to a one-year, $1.05 million contract with the team after his buy-out.
Ribeiro was drafted by his hometown team, the Montreal Canadiens in the 1998 NHL entry draft in the second round, 45th overall. Since then he has gone on to play with them, the Capitals, Stars, Coyotes, and the Predators. With his latest team he has posted 13 goals and 53 points in 66 games, arguably the best bargain in the league. Mike is also homing in on 1,000 NHL career games played and 500 career points while in his 15th NHL season.
