It looks like Beast Mode wasn’t ready to hang up the cleats after all.
After rampant speculation over his long-term plans that included rumors he would retire, Marshawn Lynch and the Seattle Seahawks have reportedly come to terms on a new contract. This comes on the heels of a hugely successful season for the talented running back. He finished fifth in the league in rushing yards yet was tied with DeMarco Murray for rushing touchdowns during the regular season with 13.
According to reports, his new deal is a one-year $11 million contract with a $9 million signing bonus. This is an upgrade from the $8.5 million he was due to make in 2015 which included a $2 million roster bonus if he was still with Seattle next week. That said, nothing has changed with regard to the length of the deal as he remains under contract with the Seahawks for only one more year.

His play during the postseason was a crucial component in Seattle’s second consecutive Super Bowl run. In three postseason games, he finished with 318 yards and two touchdowns. That included a 102 yard, one touchdown performance in Super Bowl XLIX. Much has been made since then of Pete Carroll’s puzzling decision to call a pass play on second and one from the one instead of punching it in with Lynch.
With Lynch locked up for one more season, the biggest issue facing this franchise long-term has to be keeping Russell Wilson in a Seahawks uniform. 2015 is the final year of Wilson’s rookie contract and he is slated to become possibly the biggest name amongst the 2016 free agents. Needless to say, he’ll be in line for a massive pay day and it will be interesting to see if they can keep the nucleus of this perpetual championship contending team together.
